United are certainly not messing around in this transfer window…

In the past few years, well, to be more specific, since 2006, United have not really spent that much in the transfer windows to invest in players for the squad. We’ve not really needed to, to be fair, but Sir Alex and co. have received much criticism because of that – investment is always necessary to move forward, and of course, the hypocritical quote from David Gill himself: ‘Debt is the road to ruin’ and with no investment, that’s certainly where the club will go. United spending spree done and dusted?

Remember a few months ago, when Fergie said he’d sign three players? Yeah, well, Jones, Young & completing their transfers and De Gea set to sign in the next few days, that’s three players. I know you’re all going to say that he wasn’t planning on signing Jones, but he had to, but nevertheless. It completes the 3 players.

Generally, we’ve all been crying out for an attacking midfielder and a defensive midfielder but I can’t help that Fergie has already addressed this with the signings of Jones and Young? What if that’s it? Read the rest of this entry

Why Ashley Young is the player we need

How many times did you say, we lack that bit of spark, bit of energy or that through ball last season? Frustrating isn’t it? How many times did we need a player like Young to step up to the plate to chase a winner last year? Countless, simple as that. Countless.

Ashley Young, just 25 – is a perfect signing for Manchester United. I said it years ago, he’s a player I’ve always wanted to see at United, and it seems he’s wanted to come here too for quite a while. Young, cancelled his rather expensive wedding last week to ensure that the deal gets completed as soon as possible.

Who is David De Gea? An Atletico Madrid fan tells all.

Over the past few months, United have been heavily linked with Atletico Madrid keeper, David De Gea. Those rumours were proved correct when, last month, Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that we’re interested in signing the Spanish stopper.

Not much is known of De Gea, so we got in contact with Julio Megía – an Atleti fan who runs the Forza Atleti blog. Julio speaks very highly of his club’s keeper, and you can read what he had to say below.

The small matter of Phil Jones

Phil Jones. Where to even bloody start on this post. I’ve seen a lot of people talking about this particular move, and I wanted to delve into certain specifics of the contract, the transfer, and the clauses that Blackburn Rovers have put into place.

Jones, 19, is currently under contract at Blackburn, but if you’re a Football Manager fan, you’ll know about this, and you can actually approach him with a contract without owners permission of accept/decline on the actual transfer. Sir Alex jumped at the clause, and ultimately said, here, we’ll give you £80,000 a week to join us. Jones accepted, as you would. If the most successful club in England knock on your door and you say no, you’re a fool, simple as that. Read the rest of this entry

Transfers: Ashley Young

25-year-old winger, Ashley Young, has apparently agreed on personal terms and signed a £15m transfer from Aston Villa to Manchester United. (Transfer supposedly to be complete in 7 days.) With Valencia, Nani, Giggs and Park Ji-Sung all fit and in good form – many fans have been questioning why and even how we could use him to improve our squad. There are several great qualities with Young, but the one we need the most is set-pieces. When in form, Ashley Young has been known to score quite a few beautiful free kicks and can also deliver great balls from a corner – something we’ve been lacking ever since Cristiano Ronaldo left for Real Madrid. United sign Phil Jones

Manchester United today announced the signing of Phil Jones from Blackburn. The 20-year-old defender-cum-defensive midfielder has signed a 5 year deal with the reds, but his fee remains undisclosed.

A (loosely translated) statement on the Chinese version of the club’s official site read:

“Manchester United is pleased to announce an agreement with Blackburn for Phil Jones, who has signed a five-year contract,

“The player – who today passed a medical in Manchester –  has agreed personal terms with the club.”

Jones, who impressed vs United this season, has only been playing first team football for Rovers for a couple of seasons and much like Chris Smalling, has progressed at an impressive rate.

With Wes Brown and John O’Shea expected to leave the club in the coming weeks, Jones could find himself seeing much more first-team action than he initially anticipated.

Welcome to Manchester, Phil!
